What's great about this recipe?

It's getting COLD out there – time to pull out the drinks and recipes that warm us up and keep us cozy.

Depending on where you are in the world, winter might be leaving or just coming … or maybe you're lucky enough that it's still warm and sunny.

Here in damp, chilly Nova Scotia (just a bit up the coast from Maine, for my American friends), the temperature is dropping fast and we're all looking for warm drinks to wrap our fingers around.

Time to hygge, y'all!

Mulled Apple Cider is usually made with pumpkin pie spice, but that's not what I did today.

Today we're using a bit of Five Spice Powder, boosting the flavour to something that feels familiar but still has a bit of exotic.

What you'll like most about this cider is the smell that fills your home every time you make it.

Greet the children with warm cups when they get off the school bus, or hunker down for a family afternoon while watching those great old holiday favourites.

It is that time, after all – the holiday classics are coming out, and it's time to be reminded that ‘no man is a failure who has friends'.

Hosting a holiday party at your house? Whip up a batch of Mulled Apple Cider and have it quietly simmering as guests arrive –  you'll find them drawn to the kitchen to find out what they're smelling!

It only takes five minutes to put together and then you leave it in your slow cooker for three hours on low or up to seven hours on high.

Just toss everything together and let your slow cooker to the work. When done, discard the cinnamon sticks and orange slices. Have more handy for your guests to put in their mugs.
